Chula Vista Nature Center
Chula Vista Nature Center is a globally acknowledged zoo and aquarium displaying native animals and vegetation. Find it on San Diego Bay a little south of the downtown area. Chula Vista Nature Center is open Tuesdays through Sundays but closed for several holidays throughout the year. The center displays various sea life including starfish, jellyfish, seahorse, crabs and numerous fish species. Highlights of the Chula Vista Nature Center include walk-through aviaries filled with birds (some listed as endangered), sharks and rays in massive state-of-the-art tanks, and Discovery Center, which consists of Turtle Lagoon, Bay Zone, Upland Zone and Marsh Zone. Other notables include permanent and temporary art displays; natural garden surroundings created with "native and drought-tolerant" plants; and extensive guided walking paths to explore throughout.

Spanish Village Art Center
Situated in the heart of beautiful Balboa Park and next to the San Diego Zoo, Spanish Village Art Center offers you an opportunity to see actual artists at work. It is open daily except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Days. First built in 1935 to resemble a quaint village in Spain, the site of Spanish Village is now a historical landmark and community of more than 200 working artists in 37 studios/galleries. Visitors view the creation and finished displays of all types of art from various artist including painters, basket makers, jewelry designers, enamel artists, sculptors, clay artists, metalsmiths, glass artists, mixed-media artists, printmakers, photographers and gourd artists. Spanish Village Art Center hosts many diverse events, festivals and classes throughout the year, and it provides free Wi-Fi in its open-air patio lunch section.
