Golfing
There are over 90 golf courses within a 40-mile radius of downtown San Diego. The closest public courses to downtown include Balboa Park Golf Course, an 18-hole championship course; Mission Bay Golf Course and Practice Center with an 18-hole executive course; and Riverwalk Golf Course, a 27-hole complex. Torrey Pines Golf Course is home to the Buick Invitational of California event within the PGA tour. The north course and south course are each 18 holes. The Steele Canyon Golf Course is a 27-hole championship course designed by Gary Player.
Gambling
Casinos are located at the surrounding Indian reservations offering table games, slots, poker, roulette and bingo. Del Mar Racetrack is open from the third Wednesday in July through the first Wednesday in September. This thoroughbred track was opened by Bing Crosby in 1937 and employed the first photo-finish camera.

Marine Corps Command Museum
The Marine Corps Command Museum opened for public tours in 1987. In 2005, an in-depth educational program was established to offer visitors a one-of-a-kind United States history learning experience from the Marines' point of view. The program animates the tactical and social history of the Corps in conjunction with conventional U.S. history texts. Admission is free to this military training and education base located less than 5 miles from the San Diego International Airport.

Beaches
There are over 70 miles of coastline along the Pacific Ocean at San Diego. With the year-round sunny, mild weather, a trip to the beach is always an option. The Coronado is a family-oriented beach, La Jolla shores offers scuba diving, Mission Beach is a more subdued, quiet beach, Del Mar is a surfing beach and Torrey Pines welcomes nudists. Enjoy swimming, sun bathing, playing in the sand, beach volleyball, surfing and scuba diving in the glorious San Diego sunshine. Even on a cooler day, collect some sea shells, hike the coastline or rent a boat and do some fishing.
Legoland California
From a child's construction toy set grew an idea for the Legoland California family theme park. Thirty miles north of San Diego International Airport, this educational, recreational facility opened in 1999. Catering to children from toddlers to tweens, the interactive amusement park offers nine different themed fun zones featuring over 50 rides and attractions, the Sealife Aquarium, shops and restaurants.
