Indians have worshiped Kalachandji as the Supreme Personality of Godhead for over 500 years. When the Moguls invaded, he was hidden and lost until Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada found Kalachandji propping open a small store's front door in Jaipur, India. Prabhupada brought Kalachandji to Dallas and constructed a temple to once again allow the devout to visit the Supreme Personality of the Godhead.
Prabhupada also built a vegetarian restaurant in order to provide the traditional vegetarian food eaten by Kalachandji's original followers. Guests of the restaurant may step into the temple palace to see Kalachandji and learn about his followers. The palace also features a small gift shop on site, and for $25 a class, the community can attend cooking classes held on Thursday nights.
The menu consists of an ever changing vegetarian buffet with many vegan options. Choices always include traditional choices such as dal, rice, vegetable curry, pakora, chutney and pappadam. The cooks do not allow frozen or canned vegetables into the kitchen and strictly follow the rules of the Ayurvedic tradition, refraining from the use of onion, garlic, meat, fish, or eggs.
Kalachandji's features one of the most beautiful dining settings in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Living trees have been integrated into the design of the room, and booths are tucked into corners, allowing for a feeling of privacy while enjoying the sense of community in the palace.
Kalachandji's is located less than one mile from the Tenison Park Golf Course.
