When you think of a vacation in the Bahamas, championship golfing may not be the first activity that comes to mind. However, the islands of the Bahamas are an unexpected delight for the traveling golfer. Four of them, Nassau, Freeport, Great Exuma and Treasure Cay, are large enough to host several major golf courses. The mild climate allows for year-round course-hopping, and there are a few things you should remember when you pack for your golf trip to the Bahamas.
Casual Clothing
This is a laid-back area of the world. The dress code almost everywhere you go is shorts with short-sleeved shirts or tank tops. Pack cotton items to help your body manage the heat.
For women, dresses are appropriate for dinner and evenings out; however, leave the cocktail frocks at home. Casual sundress-type garments with strappy sandals will work best in the Bahamas.
Rain Gear
Frequent showers are common on these islands. Bring a rain slicker and small umbrella to get you through those storms.
Camera and Camcorder
The scenery in the Bahamas is breathtaking. Bring your camera and enough film for your trip. Film and disposable cameras tend to be more expensive in areas that cater to tourists.
Beach Supplies
Bring your bathing suit and sunscreen, which you should apply whether you're golfing, strolling or lying on the beach. Bring a beach towel, too, as the hotels are reluctant to hand them out.
Toiletries
Pack any personal items you think you may need while you are away. Such supplies must be shipped into the islands, and, as a result, are quite pricey. Bring travel-size shampoo, haircare products, shower gel and other toiletry necessities, plus headache medicine, Band-Aids, antibiotic ointment, feminine products and bug spray.
