Golf Courses on Kiawah Island
Kiawah Island is a small island that is part of South Carolina and serves as a popular tourist destination due to the abundance of golf courses, vacationing villas, beautiful beaches and other lodging accommodations throughout the area. It is located just 15 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina and is 13.5 square miles in size. The Kiawah Island Resort is the top golf resort on the island and is home to five championship golf courses, along with other activities and amenities to enjoy.

Kiawah Island Resort Ocean Course

The Ocean Course is an 18-hole, par 72, 7,937 yard course that first opened in 1991. It has a course rating of 79.6 and a slope of 155. The course designer is Pete Dye and it is located on the easternmost end of the island. 10 of the 18 holes on the course run along the Atlantic Ocean, which provides a terrific view while playing a round. Wind is never an issue on this course as the large trees tend to block most of the breeze from the ocean. The course is open year round and rates to experience it begin around $260 (includes a caddie with the fee). The Ocean Course was home of the 2007 Senior PGA Championship and will host the 2012 PGA Championship.

Kiawah Island Resort Cougar Pointe Course

The Cougar Pointe Course is an 18-hole, par 72, 6,875 yard course that first opened in 1976 and has course rating of 73.0 and a slope of 134. The course designer is former PGA great Gary Player. This course sits along the Kiawah River and is open year round. Holes 5, 7 and 8 all have numerous trees that are strategically placed throughout, which make them very difficult. Hole 17 is arguably one of the island's most beautiful and challenging holes, due to the hazards and the construction of the hole. Course rates begin as low as $140 per person per round and that also includes rental of a cart.

Kiawah Island Resort Turtle Point Course

The Turtle Point Course is an 18-hole, par 72, 7,054 yard course that first opened in 1981, with a course rating of 74.2 and a slope of 141. The course designer of this golfing gem is Jack Nicklaus. This course is a very difficult challenge for golfers who don't drive the ball well--it features extremely narrow fairways, minuscule greens, tons of out-of-bounds areas and many water hazards. The course is open year-round and rates to play begin as low as $140 per person, per round, including a cart rental. This course has been home to the Carolinas' PGA and the South Carolina Amateur.
