Florida Keys Beach Resorts

By J.D. Chi

Florida Keys Beach Resorts
Known as a world-class fishing and diving location, the Florida Keys are a 120-mile stretch of tiny islands beginning south of Miami and ending in Key West, the southernmost point in the U.S. There are many resorts throughout the Keys, with the highest concentration of accommodations in Key West. Some Florida Keys resorts offer golf, though courses are few and far between in this area.

Casa Marina Resort

This luxury resort has a private beach and is housed in a 1920s property that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the 1950s, the hotel was popular among celebrities, including Rita Hayworth, Ethel Merman and Gregory Peck. Now a Hilton Hotels property, the Casa Marina Resort has two pools, a luxury spa, wireless Internet access throughout and modern guest rooms. Accommodations are outfitted with luxury linens and bath amenities, flat-screen televisions, coffee makers and mini refrigerators, and most have private balconies. The resort has a partnership with the Key West Golf Course and can arrange tee times for resort guests at this Rees Jones-designed course.

Cheeca Lodge & Spa Resort

After an 11-month renovation, the Cheeca Lodge & Spa Resort re-opened in December 2009 with upgraded guest rooms, common areas and two new restaurants. Long a well-known fishing resort, the Cheeca Lodge & Spa has a private beach with a 525-foot pier, a luxury spa and a pool area surrounded by waterfalls. Modern, upscale guest rooms are decorated in island chic and feature marble bathrooms with glassed-in rain showers and soaking tubs. Accommodations also have flat-panel televisions, DVD/CD players and wireless Internet access. The par-27 executive course on site was designed by Jack Nicklaus, and greens fees are included in the cost of a guest room.
