Alouette
Opened in 1946, Alouette has become a Montreal institution. The heart of the menu is the various cuts of Alberta beef, all prepared to order on a charcoal grill. The menu also has lamb and pork chops, ribs and poultry from the rotisserie, salads, and plenty of seafood. Alouette is open every day from 11 a.m. to midnight.

There is also an extensive seafood menu that includes halibut, swordfish, lobster and king crab. The restaurant also has a deep wine cellar, including a wide selection of fine French reds. The selection of port wines is arguably the best in the city. Rounding out the Rib n' Beef experience is the rooftop terrace and cigar lounge.

Moishes
This steak house is located on St. Laurent Boulevard, one of the city's main thoroughfares and the center of a major shopping and dining district. Thought by some to be the city's premier steak house, the original Moishes opened in 1938. They serve a variety of charcoal-broiled steaks, as well as lamb and veal chops, seafood and sweetbreads. The wine list is expansive and dominated by French labels, and the restaurant also has an excellent selection of single malt scotches.

Vieux-Port Steakhouse
Although this is one of the newer steakhouses in Montreal (opened in 1983), the stone walls, picture windows and warm fireplaces of Vieux-Port Steakhouse create a warm, cozy and old-fashioned atmosphere. There is a good selection of steaks, as well as buffalo, seafood, lamb and "surf and turf" combos of steak and seafood. Among the appetizers are oysters on the half shell, which are said to be excellent when in season during mid-to-late autumn. The restaurant also has a terrace and a full-sized bar.
