Jackson-Evers International Airport

Located 125 miles southwest of Starkville, the Jackson-Evers International Airport (JAN) possesses a three-level terminal with 19 gates and two 8,500-foot runways. Commercial carriers American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest and US Airways service the airport, as do rental-car agencies Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National. Private planes may land at this airport or at Hawkins Field in the downtown area. Travel between Jackson and Starkville is on Route 25, a divided four-lane road.

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International

Located 141 miles east of Starkville, the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), is served by most commercial carriers, including discount carrier Southwest. Most major car-rental agencies have desks at this airport. The airport is the biggest and busiest in Alabama; the longest of its two runways is 12,000 feet. Private planes may land at this airport.

Located 181 miles north of Starkville, the Memphis International Airport (MEM) is served by most major and discount airlines as well as most national car-rental agencies. As a "super hub" for Federal Express, it is the largest cargo operation in the world. It is a key city for commercial carrier Northwest Airlines. Passengers are served in a single terminal with three concourses and a central ticketing and baggage-claim area. Private planes may land at this airport and are serviced in a separate terminal area. The longest of the four runways is 11,120 feet.
