What Are the Benefits of a Golf Club Membership?
Whether you're new to golf or have been playing for a long time, there is often the temptation to join a golf club where you can enjoy unlimited golf and other advantages that come with club membership. While you might prefer to pay greens fees at the many different courses in your area, you should at least consider the benefits that come with membership. Remember, belonging to one club does not preclude you from playing elsewhere. As a member of one club, you may ask a guest who belongs to another club to play at your home course one weekend, and vice versa.

Save Money

The main reason for joining a golf club, aside from the social advantages, is because it makes sense financially. If you play a lot of golf, or plan to soon, figure out how much you would spend on greens fees during the year as compared to an annual membership, which would eliminate your greens fees.

Tournaments and Activities

Most golf or country clubs hold tournaments and other events throughout the year, offering you a chance to compete in a friendly atmosphere. But usually those activities are open only to members.

Widen Your Playing Circle

The more you play at a particular course, the more likely you are to develop friendships and acquire new playing partners.

Enjoy Other Amenities

Many golf clubs also have swimming, tennis, weight room, spa and other amenities available to members. If you golf and your spouse plays tennis, joining a club could benefit both of you. Also, golf lessons, club repair, dining and refreshments, and other services at a particular club are typically offered at a discount to members.

Establish Your Handicap

Joining a golf club allows you to establish a golf handicap and track it. This comes in handy during tournament play and when finding golf partners at your skill level.

Reciprocal Memberships

Some golf clubs are part of a network of clubs that allow members to enjoy the same advantages at more than one course. Ask the club pro or membership director for details.

Priority Tee Times

Members tend to get the best tee times at clubs that also allow the public to play.
