Public Golf Courses in Greenville and Spartanburg, South Carolina
Greenville and Spartanburg are both cities in the northern part of South Carolina as well as the official seats of their respective counties. Because of the generally warm, subtropical climate, these cities have become a haven for golfers anxious to tee off on one of the area's many well-manicured public courses.

Willow Creek Golf Club

This beautiful 6,890-yard, par-72 course is conveniently located just off the I-85 expressway midway between Spartanburg and Greenville. It was designed by renowned architect Tom Jackson and boasts a number of rolling hills, sand traps and woodsy foliage along the fairways, making it a fun challenge for beginners and advanced players alike. A friendly, knowledgeable staff is always on hand to answer any questions. In addition, the course is also available for corporate events and tournaments, with management providing such things as food and beverage services, personalized score cards, hole-in-one insurance and merchandise with corporate logos.

The course hosts groups of almost any size; provides lessons from respected professionals; and offers a number of specials, including twilight rates and birthday discounts. Crosswinds Golf Club

This memorable18-hole, par-3 course is the only one of its kind in the area, proving to be a great starter course for amateurs and an enjoyable practice run for more experienced players. What makes it even more uncommon is the fact that every hole was conceived by a different designer, all of whom are listed on the scorecard. They include such notables as Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, Rees Jones, Arnold Palmer and Jay Haas. Hole lengths vary from 84 to 210 yards, with fast-running greens and lights that allow avid golfers to play after dark. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the course, proper attire must be worn at all times, and each group can have no more than four players.

Located right in the heart of Greenville, this classic par-72 course first opened in 1961 and features a design by Charles Willimon. It has a course rating of 70.7 and consists of 6,546 yards of play from the longest tees. The fairways and greens are primarily Bermuda grass, and the course is considered by many to be the best groomed in the area. The signature hole is No. 1, a 460-yard par 4 that requires accuracy and power to score well. Conveniently located off I-85, the property also has a driving range and two PGA professionals on staff. It is open all year long and requires proper attire on the course at all times.
