The Civilian Conservation Corps, the New Deal program that put millions of people back to work during the Great Depression, completed this outstanding park in 1935. Each year thereafter, hundreds of thousands of people visited it from everywhere in both the United States and Canada. Aside from being home to the state's remaining oceanfront forest, the park is located right in the middle of the Grand Strand of Myrtle Beach, one of America's most famous seaside resorts. You can stay at one of the campgrounds in the park itself, or you can stay frugally at one of the three inexpensive, one star hotels that are about 10 miles (or less) away.
Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort
You can spend a lot more, yet you will receive far less when you stay at other resorts in Myrtle Beach. To begin, it offers its guests their choice of 22 water-related attractions such as a half-dozen outdoor and indoor pools, 6 kiddy pools, as well as jacuzzi, saunas and hot tubs galore. And all this is located on a 700-foot stretch of beach, about the longest of any resort on the Grand Strand. Shopping, restaurants, amusement parks and restaurants are only a few steps away from the door of this resort, as well. And as if that's not enough, each of the resort's guest rooms has a private balcony overlooking the ocean.
