Portland, Oregon has many affordable entertainment attractions that are educational as well as family-friendly. Whether it is a brief tour of the city by water or a collection of ancient Chinese flowers, Portland, Oregon has several popular points of interest.

Portland Classical Chinese Garden

Portland Classical Chinese Garden presents hundreds of native Chinese trees, plants, shrubs and signature collections, such as bamboo, Camellia, Magnolia and Rhododendron in carefully designed displays that pay homage to the Chinese culture. The garden hosts guided tours of the facilities daily and hosts musical events, arts exhibits and instructional classes, such as Tai Chi and the Chinese game of Mahjong.

Portland Spirit River Cruise

Portland Spirit River Cruise Dining and Columbia River Adventures hosts several cruises around the Portland, Oregon area. The different cruises include lunch, brunch and dinner cruises, which include a Pacific Northwest-style meal and live entertainment. Portland Japanese Garden

Portland Japanese Garden consists of five different gardens--the Flat, Stroll, Tea, Natural and Sand and Stone Gardens. Each garden represents a different historical example of Japan, which is explained through guided tours of the facilities. Portland Japanese Garden hosts special events, such as holiday art shows and sales and gardening and photography workshops.

Portland Art Museum

Portland Art Museum houses more than 42,000 permanent pieces, including Native American, American Northwestern and Chinese and Japanese paintings and objects. The museum also hosts numerous exhibits, events, art classes and lectures and guided tours of the facility.

Oregon Zoo

The Oregon Zoo is home to a wide array of animals, including the Peruvian penguin, the Arctic polar bear and the Asian elephant. The zoo's exhibits include an Africa savanna and rain forest; red ape reserve; the Great Northwest exhibit and the insect zoo. The Oregon Zoo is an earth-friendly operation that hosts evening safari tours, behind the scenes tours and catered events.
