Historic Pubs in Wexford, Ireland
Wexford is a warm and friendly town in Ireland's sunniest county, steeped in history, rebellion and romance. Wexford County played a bloody role in the rebellion against the English in 1798, and many of the pubs are reminders of the gory skirmish. Wexford affords the visitor interesting and unique shops and pubs, spectacular scenery and a number of challenging golf courses.

Con Macken's, the Cape of Good Hope

Don't let the sign put you off when visiting Con Macken's, a comical venue that performs triple-duty as a pub, undertaker and wine shop. This ancient pub has quite a history as an old alehouse and for several centuries has been a political hub for the Wexford area. Enjoy the souvenirs and weaponry of the Irish rebellion gracing the walls as you settle in for some traditional craic and ale. Be sure to check out the Wexford Golf Club on the hills of Mulgannon, a quick five-minute putt from Wexford. This 18-hole parkland course has recently been redesigned by architect Jeff Howes to provide players with a unique, challenging round of golf.

Paddy Blues Pub

Less than 30 miles north of Wexford is the town of Gorey, home to Paddy Blues, a true ancient landmark of a pub featuring a traditional stone and brick exterior, timber wood beams and a warm, welcoming open fire. This cheerful pub offers spontaneous Irish jam sessions by locals and has regular Sunday night music performances and dancing. The walls are decorated with nostalgic memorabilia--a sometimes chilling reminder of days gone by. Test your golf skills before coming to the pub at the Seafield Golf Club, an exciting cliff-top parkland course with 18 holes on the edge of Gorey Town. It is coupled with a hotel and spa retreat.

Corcoran's Pub

Located upon the bloodiest of all battle sites from the 1798 rebellion is Corcoran's Pub, one of the oldest pubs in all of Wexford County. This historic pub is in the medieval section of New Ross and has been in operation since the mid-1800s. Offering traditional Irish music every weekend, the pub has homemade food, warm patrons, a delightful beer and water garden, and card games every Tuesday evening. Corcoran's is a quick 30-minute drive from Wexford town and located near Scarke Golf Club in New Ross, a challenging 18-hole, 72-par course that also has a nine-hole course and a 12-bay driving range.
