Bridgend is located 22 miles west of the Cardiff. Several prehistoric burial mounds found near this area, suggest settlement occurred before Roman times. There are promising golf opportunities in this area. The Bridgend Golf Club has a small nine-hole course in close-by Corntown. This is also the home of St. Mary's Hotel, Golf, and Country Club, which sits outside of Bridgend, but is very close. St. Mary's has an 18-hole championship course that is one of the most picturesque in the Vale Glamorgan. St. Mary's also hosts a 12-hole course called Kingfisher.
