For a mountain vacation in a historic setting, the town of Cripple Creek, Colorado is located in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of nearly 10,000 feet, 20 miles west of Colorado Springs. Cripple Creek was once a gold rush town and offers visitors the opportunity to go down 1,000 feet into an actual gold mine. Cripple Creek now features several casinos as well as an array of inns for accommodations. Golf courses are close by, and more can be found in neighboring cities like Colorado Springs and Canon City.

Carr Manor Historic Inn

Carr Manor Historic Inn is located in an old high school building originally constructed in 1897 that was converted to a hotel in 1983. The inn offers 14 guest accommodations, including queen rooms and four varieties of suites with features like wireless Internet and cable television. On-site amenities include a fitness spa offering three types of massages, a grand ballroom for weddings and conferences and an art galley and gift shop featuring regional works of art. Golfers can enjoy tee times at the Shadow Hills Golf Club in nearby Canon City.

Hotel St. Nicholas

The Hotel St. Nicholas is located within walking distance of restaurants and casinos and offers 15 king and queen rooms, all with private baths and cable television. The hotel offers a free breakfast, and guests can lounge in the rooftop Jacuzzi from May to October. The on-site Boiler Room Tavern offers cocktails and a light dinner menu. Facilities for meetings and receptions are also available. The Cripple Creek Country Club is open to the public.

Imperial Casino Hotel

For a lodging experience that includes gaming, the Imperial Casino Hotel was built in 1896 and now includes 26 guest rooms and a casino with 175 slot machines and a variety of video games. All guest rooms are non-smoking and offer a choice of single, double or queen beds. For on-site dining, Chef Paul's Steak House features fine dining, and guests can relax with a cocktail at the Red Rooster. Hot and cold sandwiches are available at the Third Street Deli. The Cripple Creek Country Club and Shadow Hills are both nearby for golf.
