Cap City Comedy Club
Cap City Comedy is a staple of the Austin nightlife. If you are looking for a great venue to throw back some drinks and laugh until your belly hurts, then this is the place to do it. Cap City has a long tradition of showcasing the brightest young talent, as well as, staples of the comedy club circuit. Comedians, such as D.L. Hughley, Kevin Nealon and Matt Sadler, have all graced the stage.
Cap City offers shows every night of the week at 8 p.m., with additional shows on Friday and Saturday nights at 10:30 p,m. If you're planning to visit on a weekend, or when a well known comedian takes the stage, then it is advised to buy tickets in advance through the website.

Esther's Follies
Esther's Follies, located in the heart of the Sixth Street club scene, is a true Austin original. For more than 30 years, Esther's has tickled the funny-bones of the audience through its moderately raunchy satirical sketch comedy. The format of the show is more akin to the vaudeville and magic routines of a bygone era. Political figures, the rich and famous and everyday people walking Sixth Street are never safe from the biting satirical humor of this comedy troupe.
Esther's Follies performs live Thursday nights at 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. The show runs approximately 90 minutes, but get there early as a pre-show warm-up begins 20 minutes prior to show time. A full bar is located onsite; however, popcorn is the only food served. Both food and drink are allowed in the theater during the show.

The Velveeta Room
The Velveeta Room is another Austin original, and shares the same owners as Esther's Follies. The difference in the two neighboring establishments is that The Velveeta Room is a stand-up comedian's heaven in the heart of Sixth Street. The clubs opened in 1988 and numerous well known names have taken the stage over the years, including Tenacious D, the late Mitch Hedberg and Dave Attell.
If you think you may have what it takes to be the next Eddie Izzard, then The Notorious Open Mic Night is designed for you. Regular club hours are dependent on scheduled comedians; therefore, check the website for hours and upcoming shows.
