Along with its golden beaches, Fort Lauderdale possesses numerous educational, historical and other attractions that would be of interest to visitors. Recognized as the "Venice of America" with its widespread canal system, seeing Fort Lauderdale aboard a water taxi provides a glimpse of the city not otherwise seen. It is recommended to take a short excursion west to experience a subtropical ecosystem, the Everglades one of the state's most fascinating treasures. A trip to the region would not be complete without a stop at the nearby Aqua Golf Driving Range.

Sawgrass Recreation Park

The whole family will enjoy a trip deep into the mysterious Florida Everglades at Sawgrass Recreation Park for memories of a lifetime. Outdoor enthusiasts can ride aboard an airboat gently cruising over the waters viewing the wildlife in natural surroundings and learn about the region from the tours informative captains. There are day and night trips or groups can charter a private tour of the area. Exhibits on the grounds consist of a number of exotic and native creatures, including the state's well known gators and panthers. It is recommended to stop by Swamp Yard Island, where visitors feed and mingle among the friendly wildlife. Aqua Golf Driving Range

A short drive south of the city leads to one of the region's last free-standing ranges to hone golfing skills. Aqua Golf Driving Range seen in the movie "There's Something About Mary" was established more than 50 years ago and offers shade on those hot Florida days or protection from the afternoon rains with its massive covered hitting stalls. Located on a 20-acre lake, Aqua Golf Driving Range also has a short game center for working on putting, chipping and sand techniques. Other features include on-site lessons for all skill levels in a private or group setting, a fully stocked pro shop, club rentals and refreshments.
