Hotels in Silverton
The town of Silverton, Colorado, at an elevation of 9,318 feet above sea level, was founded in the Rockies during the gold rush of the late nineteenth century. A railroad, now known as the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge, reached the town in 1882, bringing more people to work in the mines. The mines failed and the town welcomed guests from the film industry who used the downtown as a set. Located high in the mountains, Silverton is a mecca for railroad enthusiasts, skiers, hikers, cyclists and climbers. Following are a few hotels in the area.

The Bent Elbow Hotel & Restaurant

The Bent Elbow Hotel & Restaurant opened in 1907 as Fattor's Tremount Saloon. Upstairs was home to a bordello run by Matilda "Big TIllie" and Celeste Fattor. Fred Bostock opened the Bent Elbow restaurant and bar in 1956, complete with a live western stage show. The original structure burned in 1968 but was immediately rebuilt by the owners Effie and R.M. Andreatta. The current owners, Pete and LeAnn Maisel, offer several suites decorated with specialized furniture and decor. All rooms offer high-speed Internet access, state-of-the-art bathrooms, cable television and a telephone. Rates vary by season. Winter (December through March) has the less expensive rates and the peak season (July through September) has the highest priced nightly rate. The hotel's bar and restaurant is open for lunch from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day during May through October. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. during the same months. Wyman Hotel & Inn

The Wyman Hotel and Inn was originally constructed in 1902 by businessman Louis Wyman on the location of his mine freight business. Wyman envisioned a location where the community might meet to dance and so he designated the top floor of his building as a ballroom with a smaller adjoining banquet room. After years of use as an apartment building for miners, a hotel was opened. Room offerings include a single or double queen, single king or family suite. Visitors may also elect to stay in the private room in the Candlelight Caboose. Four additional rooms are offered with whirlpool baths. Each room is named and is decorated in a unique style with special features. These rooms are listed on the website with links under the names. Bedding is made from down, including the bed, pillows and duvet and rooms feature original period antiques. Rooms have private baths, ceiling fans and a television set with DVD and VCR capabilities. Guests have access to a hotel viewing library. A gourmet breakfast and candlelight dinner is available at the inn. Prices vary by selection and season. The hotel is a smoke-free environment. Complimentary trolley rides to and from the Silverton train station is available with prior arrangement.
