Island Resort Caribbean Restaurant

Island Resort Caribbean Restaurant is a popular location for authentic Caribbean food in Houston. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering such items as okra, saltfish, porridge, jerk chicken, cow foot, curry shrimp, stuffed roast fish and oxtail. Patrons can finish their meal with a sweet potato pudding or rum and raisin ice cream. The restaurant's atmosphere is reminiscent of island life with lush tropical foliage and large tiki huts on an outdoor wooden deck. Happy hour is available on the deck on Fridays after 6:30 p.m. with margarita specials. Reservations are not needed for Island Resort Caribbean Restaurant and entrees are approximately $8 each.

Trini Shak

The Trini Shak is a delicious, one-of-a-kind Caribbean cafe offering traditional Caribbean cuisine with a Texas flair. Located in North Houston near The Woodlands, Trini Shak specializes in dishes that cater to those looking for a hearty meat dish and vegetarians as well. Menu selections include goat, oxtail, beef, tilapia and chicken, with vegetarian substitutes available. Most entrees are selected with two side dishes that can include fried plantains, baked macaroni or cabbage among other items. Catering is available and reservations are not needed. As of November 2009, average plate prices were approximately $10 each.

Caribbean Jerk Cuisine

Caribbean Jerk Cuisine is a Houston Caribbean restaurant with island flavor and Jamaican style cuisine. Per its namesake, the restaurant offers a signature jerk chicken dish that keeps the locals coming back again and again. Portions are large, and menu items include fried dumplings, jerk chicken wings, fried plantains, curried goat, fried oxtails and stewed beef. A large wine and beer selection is available, as is complimentary high-speed Internet and a souvenir shop. Reservations are not needed, and as of November 2009, entree prices were inexpensive at approximately $10 per plate.
