Food Attractions in Portland, Oregon

Food Attractions in Portland, Oregon
Portland, Oregon, has no shortage of eccentric food attractions. Food carts run rampant in the city, with new ones popping up throughout the neighborhoods overnight. Portlanders do everything with their own unique style, and dining is no different. From a late-night snack of fries to bacon-flavored doughnuts, Portland has plenty of weird delicacies for even the most seasoned foodie.

Voodoo Doughnuts

Voodoo Doughnuts is a Portland institution, and its employees are practically local celebrities. Voodoo Doughnuts is so popular that it even offers wedding packages for people who want to get married in the store. The original Voodoo Doughnuts is located in the heart of downtown Portland in a cramped, unassuming little shop. Patrons can choose from a variety of doughnuts that, guaranteed, aren't available anywhere else (expect Voodoo II, the second location): the Arnold Palmer, a cake doughnut smothered in lemon and tea powder, the Butter Fingering, consisting of Devils food, vanilla and crushed Butterfinger, and the Neapolitan, a chocolate doughnut with vanilla frosting and strawberry quick powder. Voodoo Doughnuts also offers vegan doughnuts and fresh coffee.

Junior Ambassador's

Junior Ambassador's is an orange food cart located right below a grassy knoll on North Portland's Albina Avenue. On the side of the cart is a purple neon sign that reads a very true statement: "sweet awesome." Run by a friendly man with a sincere devotion to ice cream, Junior Ambassador's is one of the best things about summer in Portland. The menu constantly changes to include new seasonal ingredients, and ice creams are made fresh right inside the cart. Gingersnap cookies and basil, strawberry chipotle, bacon with real maple syrup and avocado chocolate chip are just a few of the unusual flavors that have been served at Junior Ambassador's. The ice cream cart also hosts free outdoor folk concerts on the grassy knoll, a pure hot weather pleasure.

Potato Champion

Potato Champion is one of Portland's best known and most beloved food carts. Located on the corner of SE 12th and Hawthorne in an old lot, Potato Champion always has a line of eager eaters. It's hard to miss despite its small size, as the brightly colored mural on the side of the cart and the smell of fresh french fries will grab your attention a block away. The concept is simple: choose between a small order and large order of fries, then pick a sauce. There's Horseradish Ketchup, Rosemary Truffle Ketchup, Fritessaus, Tarragon Anchovy Mayo, Dijon Mustard and Satay Sauce . . . to name a few. Potato Champion has the delicious bonus of being open until 3 a.m.
