Queens, New York Attractions

Queens, New York Attractions
In New York City, the borough of Queens offers golfers a variety of different options where they can hone their skill. Whether seeking out the most difficult course in the boroughs, searching for the best place to practice your 300 yard drive or even a place to relax after the day is done, Queens is a good place to start when visiting the city.

Forest Park Golf Course

Set in the western edge of famed architect Frederick Olmsted's scenic Forest Park, the Forest Park Golf Course offers visitors to Queens one the city's most challenging courses. This par 70 course has 18 holes laid out over 6053 yards. Golfers will meet their stiffest test when encountering any of the three par five holes. Additional challenges include three water holes, tree-lined fairways and elevated greens. Two million dollars in renovations were added in 1996, bringing the course to its current length and adding a brand new clubhouse and snack bar. Group and private lessons are available. Open dawn to dusk, this is a favorite course among locals, so guests are encouraged to use the on-line reservation system.

Socrates Sculpture Garden

Wind down after a full day of golf with a visit to the Socrates Sculpture Garden. Located along the East River in the Long Island City section of Queens, the sculpture garden offers installations in a wide variety of mediums and welcomes visitors to touch most pieces. This is a rare treat in a city where touching art work is tantamount to larceny. Views of Manhattan from the park are superb and the garden's greenery makes for an ideal place to toast the day's exceptional golfing as the sun goes down behind Manhattan. Open all year long, 10 a.m. to sunset.
