San Antonio, Texas is the home of the Alamo mission site. Founded in 1718, the Spanish mission's purpose was the christianization of Native Americans in the area. In 1836, the Battle of Alamo sealed San Antonio in history. Historic hotels in San Antonio represent the people who sacrificed their lives for Texas and the commercial prosperity that followed. Four golf courses on the Alamo City Golf Trail are less than five miles from historic hotels and the Alamo.

Menger Hotel

Constructed in 1859, The Menger Hotel is right next to the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, on the site of the first Texas brewery. Prominent figures like President Theodore Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant have stayed in the original two-story hotel.

Now a five-story hotel, this Historic Hotels of America building has 316 rooms. All rooms have free high-speed Internet access. The hotel provides coffee makers and refrigerators, if needed. Hotel amenities include 24-hour room service, an outdoor pool, babysitting services, a business center, a fitness center and concierge service. Riverside Golf Course's 18 holes are five miles from this historic hotel.

Crockett Hotel

Crockett Hotel sits on the site of the 1836, 13-day siege in which Davy Crockett and his soldiers unsuccessfully defended the Alamo against Mexican forces. The phrase "Remember the Alamo" uttered during Texas' defeat inspired the victory at San Jacinto. In 1909, a fraternal organization constructed a six-story fraternal lodge and hotel. In 1927, a seven-story west wing was added.

The 138 guest rooms have wireless and dial-up Internet access, coffee makers, cable television with movie and video game capability, and Gilchrist and Soames bath products. Hotel amenities include an outdoor pool, continental breakfast and room service until 2 a.m. Brackenridge Golf Course, an 18-hole course listed on the Texas Registry of Historical Sites, is two and a half miles from the hotel.

The Fairmount Hotel

Constructed in 1906, The Fairmount Hotel San Antonio hotel once sat six blocks away from its current location. In 1985, when the 3.2 million pound hotel was moved to its current spot, it entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest structure moved on wheels. The hotel sits on an archeological site filled with a variety of artifacts such as British china and military objects from the Battle of the Alamo.

All 37 guest rooms and suites have free high-speed Internet access, 27-inch televisions and CD players, and two multifunctional telephones. Hotel amenities include 24-hour front desk, a 24-hour business center, a 24-hour fitness center and valet laundry services. Willow Springs Golf Course, an 18-hole course, is three and a half miles from the hotel.
