*17 at Alden-Houston
*17 has been setting the standard in American food in Houston since it opened in 2004. In fact, just months after *17 opened, Texas Magazine said it had to be on your list of new places to try. You'll have difficulty choosing an entree on its lengthy menu, but some of the favorite dishes are the rack of lamb served with arugula pudding, purple potatoes, chanterelle mushrooms and asparagus, and pan-seared salmon with curried apricots, broccolini, and wild rice. It also has a thoughtful wine list, so it's easy to match a wine with your dinner.

Mark's American Cuisine
If you'd like to take that special someone out for a meal, Mark's American Cuisine is possibly the most romantic restaurant in Houston. It occupies and old church with hand-painted murals hanging on the walls and a gold ceiling. When you are seated, there will be a lighted candle on your table. The menu describes such masterpieces as sesame-encrusted shrimp with red curry and wasabi-infused crème fraiche or grilled Scottish salmon with Asian vegetables and pineapple coconut rice. Wine Spectator Magazine has given Mark's a Certificate of Merit for its exceptional wine list.
