If you like to vacation in a rural setting, you might want to consider the Kiamichi Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. The town of Clayton, Oklahoma, is in this remote region of the state. Activities abound for the outdoors enthusiast, as the area has abundant hunting and fishing. No national hotel chains operate in Clayton, but it has a country inn, and two bed-and-breakfast establishments are about an hour away in Broken Bow. You can golf 35 miles from Clayton at the Antlers Springs Golf Course (see Resources section), a nine-hole, regulation-length facility.
Clayton Country Inn
A highlight of the Clayton Country Inn is the great room, where you can lounge by the natural rock fireplace and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains. You can choose from one of the nine guest rooms or one of the two spacious units in the duplex cottage. You can dine on a specially prepared meal of steak, chicken or other selections in the dining room. Plenty of activities are nearby, as the outdoor setting makes for excellent hunting, fishing, dirt biking and horseback riding.
