The greatest advantage of the McGetrick Golf Academy is the vast teaching experience of its staff. Over the years we have helped thousands of golfers of all levels improve their games. As well, the Learning Center at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club is state-of-the-art facility and is regarded as one of the finest instruction centers in the country.

What is the dress code at the McGetrick Golf Academy? (Top)
Denim is not allowed on the golf course or practice facilities, and collared shirts are required.

Would it be better for me to enroll in a golf academy or private instruction? (Top)
You receive the same information that you would in a private lesson, but a golf academy allows you to practice what you learn for a longer period of time under the supervision of your instructor. An academy setting also allows the instructors more time to cover more skill areas. Golf academies are an economic way to receive golf instruction on all aspects of the game over a shorter period time. While this is done in a group setting, a great deal of individual attention takes place. On the other hand, private instruction allows for a personalized, one-on-one session which focuses on one specific area per lesson such as, full swing, putting, bunker shots, etc.

What type of students are your Golf Academies directed toward? (Top)
The Golf Academies are open to golfers of all abilities. Within the academies, students will be grouped according to ability level so that instruction can more effectively geared toward each players specific game.

What is the process for making a reservation for a golf academy? (Top)
Once you decide on a specific academy and date, call the academy to make the reservation. At that time we will need the following: full name, mailing address, phone number, email address, handicap or average score and a $100 deposit.

Does McGetrick Golf Academy accept beginners? (Top)
Yes, our staff of teaching professionals is qualified to teach students of all abilities. They especially welcome introducing and teaching the beginner student how to enjoy the game of golf. The Two and Three Day Academies are the same price; what is the difference?
These two Academies cover the same curriculum and you will receive the same amount of instruction in each. The Two Day Academies are conducted on weekends and are ideal for those who are not able to schedule during the week. The Three Day Academy is conducted during the week and includes an additional round of golf.

Is there a discount on golf academies for multiple attendees? (Top)
Yes, there is a 15% discount for groups of three or more.

Are rain checks issued for golf academies? (Top)
Rain checks are issued for inclement weather only – no exceptions.

Is my golf academy deposit refundable? (Top)
No, the deposit is not refundable but it may be transferred to other services and/or goods.

What happens in the case of inclement weather? (Top)
The McGetrick Golf Academy has both indoor and outdoor capabilities. Private instruction will not be effected by weather conditions. Golf Academy itineraries may have to be rearranged in the case of inclement weather.

What is Academy’s philosophy on teaching? (Top)
The academy’s teaching philosophy is based on the fact that you cannot standardize the golf swing. It’s important to develop the golf swing around the student’s capabilities to determine what is the most efficient way for the student to swing the golf club. Mike and his staff take what the student is currently doing and try to improve upon it, keeping the swing changes within the style of the student.

Are the staff instructors as good as Mike McGetrick? (Top)
The members of the McGetrick Golf Academy staff are all highly qualified. Each works closely with Mike to remain current in the latest teaching techniques. While Mike has gained national recognition, you will receive the same quality of instruction from any of the staff instructors.

Is taking an academy or private instruction with Mike McGetrick worth the extra money? (Top)
Mike McGetrick has gained national recognition for his teaching. Golf Digest Magazine currently ranks him number 8 in the country among golf instructors. His work with numerous touring professionals puts his time at a premium. Golf instruction with Mike will allow you to gain the same type of insight into your game as these professionals receive.

Which instructor is best for me? (Top)
All of the instructors at the McGetrick Golf Academy are qualified to teach golfers of every ability level. In choosing an instructor, it may be helpful to read the instructor biographies included on this website. Scheduling is also a consideration in choosing an instructor. Please call the Academy to inquire about available times.

I'm a female, should I have a female instructor? (Top)
It is not necessary to have an instructor of the same gender. Since all of our instructors work to improve your golf game given your unique characteristics, they are able to effectively teach both male and female golfers.

Do I need to make an appointment for private instruction? (Top)
Yes, our instructors are available by appointment only.

Is there a specific itinerary for a series of lessons? (Top)
No. Each student has their own specific goals and each series is tailored to those needs. The instructor helps you create a plan for your lessons to help you reach your goals.

Does my series of private lessons expire? (Top)
No, we realize that making time in your busy schedule is sometimes difficult and therefore the private lesson series can be used over any period of time.

What is the best time to begin the player development program? (Top)
This program can be started at anytime since it is tailored to each individual student.

What age do you recommend that juniors begin instruction? (Top)
Each junior is unique in their strength, enthusiasm towards golf, and attention span. You as parents and grandparents know best. You need to ask yourself whether or not your junior would benefit from some structured instruction or just some fun on the driving range or putting green with you.

I do not have my own golf clubs; does the academy have some that I may use? (Top)
We have several demo sets for students who do not own their own equipment. Advanced notice is recommended to ensure availability.

Do I need golf shoes? (Top)
No, most types of athletic shoes are sufficient.

I am a beginner; do you recommend that I buy clubs right away? (Top)
No, it is best wait until you have established a repeatable swing before you purchase clubs. This is essential to being properly fit for the clubs that will work best for you.

What is involved in a club fitting session? (Top)
A club fitting session normally takes one hour. During this time you will be asked to hit balls with a variety of clubs that will determine the following: club head type, lie, loft; shaft type, length, grip type and size. Ball distance and trajectory will be calculated using the Distance Caddy and launch monitor.

No, this fee is for our expertise in the art and science of club fitting.

What is the best time to try demo equipment? (Top)
Demo equipment is available Monday through Saturday, but it is best to call ahead to let us know you are coming.

Yes, they are redeemable for one full year from the date of issue.
