Plan Your Golf Vacation

By Steve Silverman

The game of golf is addicting. Playing one round a week leads to playing two. Then before you know it, you are playing three or four times per week. Pretty soon, golf or the thought of it dominates your mind. It is not enough to play on weekends and a couple of times a week. You want to take a golf vacation. The choices are many and you have the option of going with your family or golfing buddies.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step 1
Go with your buddies to a great golf resort destination, such as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This is a great place because you have your choice of dozens of courses and several outstanding resorts and hotels. Myrtle Beach caters to the golfer. The River Club is a great test that features water hazards on 15 of its 18 holes. The Long Bay Club was designed by all-time great Jack Nicklaus and is considered one of the most difficult courses in the state.
Step 2
Go with your buddies to Pinehurst, North Carolina. While this may sound a lot like Step 1, Pinehurst features some of the best courses in the United States and while they are pricey, you'll have memories to last a lifetime. The Pinehurst Resort is the area's signature golf resort as it features tight fairways that require expert shot making. The National Golf Club may be better for the less-accomplished golfer because it features wide and plush fairways that make approach shots more possible.
Step 3
Go with your family to Orlando, Florida. While your wife and kids spend their day happily in Walt Disney World, you can spend the day on the golf course. You would be well advised to give up at least one day of golf to spend with your family, but the courses in central Florida are lush and plentiful so it might be difficult.
Step 4
Go with your wife to Las Vegas and play many of the courses there. This is an excellent destination if your wife also is a golfer. It is not a great place to take the kids. Make sure that you play at the Bali Hai Golf Club--one of the most opulent resort courses in the world--at least once.
Step 5
Go to southern California and play the great courses in San Diego and Los Angeles and all those in between. One of the best is Torrey Pines in San Diego, a beautiful public course that offers great challenges and great rewards. This is a great vacation to take with family or friends.

Tips & Warnings

Plan your vacation months in advance so that you can get tee times at your favorite courses.
