Sightseeing in Metro DC
By Bobby Ingram
In addition to being the capitol of the United States, Washington, D.C., has many wonderful tourist attractions. Whether you are looking to see government monuments, such as the Lincoln or Jefferson memorials, or to pay respects at war memorials, there is much to do in metropolitan D.C. If you want to go sightseeing, it can be overwhelming at first, but there are various available tour options that allow you to decide upon the best route.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Take the D.C. in a Day Tour to see all of the city's most popular tourist attractions in one pass. The tour will take you to such sites as the Smithsonian, the Capitol Building and the FBI Building.
Purchase a City Sightseeing Double Decker Hop On/Hop Off Pass to see the city at your leisure during the course of two days. The pass is valid for two consecutive days and allows you to get on any of the city's double decker buses, which make the rounds past D.C.'s top attractions, giving you full control of what you see and when.
Ride on the Old Town Trolley Narrated Tour for a short tour, easily fit in between an early morning round and a twilight round. The two-hour tour will take you past such sites as the Lincoln Memorial, Georgetown University and the White House, all with the help of a professional tour guide providing facts on the places you visit.
Ride on the Monuments by Moonlight Trolley Tour for a nighttime trolley experience. The Monuments by Moonlight tour is similarly brief, less than three hours long, and can be a great relaxing end to a night after a long day on the course.
See D.C. from dry land and water by riding one of the D.C. Ducks. Ducks are boats converted to function on land as well, allowing the Duck to take you through city streets on a tour, then out onto the Potomac River, but only after you've seen such sights as Capital Building.
Bike around metropolitan D.C. with a Bike the Sites Guided Bike Tour. The bike tours come in three varieties--the Monuments Tour, the Capital Sites Tour and the Sites at Night tour--and feature a bike ride around the city, along with a tour guide to provide information on the attractions you arrive at.
