How to Make a Flight Reservation
By Clint Hale
Once upon a time, booking a flight was no easy feat. However, modern technology has made booking flights a cinch, so much so that there are now myriad ways in which to book air travel, whether for business or that next great golf getaway.
Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Book online through a travel site. These sites, such as Expedia, Orbitz and Priceline, specialize in booking air travel conveniently. Simply type in your departure and destination airports on the Web site, pick your desired arrival date and time, have your credit card information on hand, and follow the rest of the instructions on the site. These sites will allow you to print out receipts and will also email all confirmation info. Plus, most of these sites will allow users to book packages, which can include hotel and rental car reservations, to a number of locales, both national and international.
Book directly through the airline. This can be done online or by phone. All major airlines offer online booking. Simply visit the website of your preferred airline, pick a destination, date and time, and book. To book by phone, call the airline (most have automated instructions designed to ease this process) and proceed from there. Ask for customer service should any issues arise. Have your credit card and personal information on hand in both cases. Booking online is usually preferable to booking over the phone, if only for convenience and the quickness of having all travel info expedited via email.
Book through a travel agent. For those with busy schedules, or those who simply aren't interested in the ins and outs of locating and booking a flight, this might be the best course of action. Although it will cost a fee, travel agents specialize in booking flights and finding the best deals on these flights as well. To book a flight this way, simply visit a travel agent in your area and give him as much information as possible in regards to your destination and the planned date and time of your arrival, and let him proceed from there. Agents will confirm a flight before booking to make sure you're satisfied with all arrangements.
