Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Utilize the Internet. Thanks to the Internet, finding and booking discount hotels is much easier than it used to be. Online travel sites such as Hotwire and Priceline feature packages and discount deals on hotels all over the world. Meanwhile, discount-specific sites like Cheap Tickets and Last Minute Travel specialize in locating and tracking discount deals on hotels, flights, rental cars. Also, check out hotel websites directly. Many major chain hotels will feature specials and packages on their own homepages, which can result in big savings for those who do their online research.
Hire a travel agent. These professionals specialize in finding the latest and best deals on anything pertaining to travel, including hotels, flights, all-inclusive resorts. While it will cost you more up front to hire a travel agent, the money you save in the long run on hotel discounts may outweigh the up-front costs.
Ask around. Consult friends, family, and co-workers who have traveled recently to check on any hotel deals they might have secured, and the way in which they went about securing such a deal. Often, word of mouth is how many hotels rely on alerting potential customers to deals and discounts.
Cash in any rewards or club memberships you may have. For instance, some employers offers deals on hotels with certain chains, due in part to existing business relationships, for those that work for said company. Also, certain car insurance companies and travel clubs offer discounts on certain hotels just for retaining current membership. This holds true for credit card companies as well, who offer points/reward programs/discounts to a number of hotels. Consult each company with whom you are a member to gauge any potential discounts that may await.
