How to Remove Golf Grips
By Steve Silverman
Maintaining your golf clubs is a must if you want them to last for years and years. At the least, you have to keep them clean and in working condition. One of the things you may want to do is change your grips on a regular basis. You can save money by doing it yourself.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Use your knife to make four cuts down the length of your existing golf grips. These cuts should be about four inches long, so you can reach in the hole and pull off the old grip.
Pop off the grip cap at the top of the grip and slide down the grip stop at the bottom of the grip. The grip stop should rest where the shaft mades the blade of the club. This is called the hosel.
Take a wet rag and clear off the dirt and debris that has accumulated under the grip. Use warm water to get your rag wet and then clean the shaft by wiping the rag length-wise down the shaft.
Use alcohol-based solvent to get the old glue that was used under your grips off. The solvent should get rid of all the glue and restore it to workable condition. You will then need to wipe off the excess solvent with your wet cloth and then dry it with a dry cloth.
Get a roll of grip tape and roll it down the surface of the club in a serpentine fashion. Once you do this for 8-to-10 inches, your shaft is now prepared for you to put on your new grip.
Tips & Warnings
Make sure your clean off the shaft once you get the old grip off your shaft.
