How to Find Cheap Air Tickets
By Chad Buleen
Finding a cheap air ticket is not quite as hard as hitting a hole-in-one, but it does require a little bit of luck. In addition to luck, finding cheap plane tickets requires work and patience. When you are able to find plane tickets for less than what they usually cost, all of the work you have put into finding them should be worth it.

Be prepared to adjust your plans. Although you might have the perfect golf trip planned out in your mind, the days that correspond with this perfect plan might not correspond with the days that cheap tickets are offered. One of the best ways to find cheap tickets is to click on the "Flexible Dates" box when searching for a flight on sites such as Travelocity or Orbitz. This will allow you to see the cheapest flights in a general time period instead of only on a specific day. Having this more-detailed view can allow you to easily see when the cheapest flights are being offered.
Plan to travel on inconvenient days. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are the best days to fly for less money because people do not travel as much on these days. Airlines lower prices on these days because they would rather have a semi-full plane of people who paid discounted fares than a semi-empty plane of a few people who paid full fares. The good thing about traveling on a Tuesday or Wednesday is that you can beat the weekend rush to the golf course by playing in the middle of the week instead.
Search on Tuesdays. Not only are Tuesdays great days to fly, but they are also great days for searching for deals. Most airlines update their fees Tuesday afternoons. Therefore, if you want to find cheap air tickets, keep an eye on the airfare search engines on Tuesdays after lunch.
Look for a combination of cheap airlines and big airports. Some of the smaller airlines offer no-frills service, which decreases the cost of flights. Check with carriers such as Southwest or Virgin America. Likewise, flights that go in and out of the larger airports tend to be cheaper. Flying to or from an international airport is almost always cheaper than flying through a regional airport.
Think about when the most inconvenient time for you to fly would be, then look into the flights at that time. Although arriving at the airport at 4 a.m. is less than desirable, the flights that leave very early in the morning or very late in the evening are the cheapest flights. You are less likely to find cheap airline tickets for flights that leave mid-morning or early afternoon because these are times when most people want to travel and are willing to pay extra to travel at these times.
Tips & Warnings
Try flying a few days before and a few days after the typical holiday rush dates to save some money.
