Write down your itinerary. Note that the most important aspect of your itinerary is not simply your departure and arrival city, but rather the airport codes of every airport you enter. Airport codes can be found on your travel information and are unique letter sequences that specify every major airport. It is important to write down not only your arrival and destination airport codes, but any layovers.
Enter your itinerary (by airport code) into an online mileage calculator. These tools, available over the internet, provide an estimate for the flight distance between the airports in your itinerary.
Write down the result from the online mileage calculator.
Check your frequent flier agreement to determine any bonuses you may have accrued. Some airlines offer double miles for certain flights. Others offer bonuses depending on how you book your flight or based on other services the airline or its affiliates offer. Some airline mile calculators have built-in functions that will let you add in your bonus miles to their calculations.
Keep track of your own airline mile calculations and compare them with the airline's record. Customer service will help you resolve any discrepancies.
