How to Purchase Travel Money

How to Purchase Travel Money
If you don't want to carry cash on your golf vacation, you can purchase a TravelMoney card, a prepaid Visa debit card accepted all over the world. What makes it great for golfers is that you can stick it in your pants pocket or golf bag while you are on the course and have an instant source of cash with you for emergencies or food and drinks at the club house. If you drop it while you're out, a thief can't run up your card with expensive purchases--it's worth only the amount of money you put on it and requires a personal identification number.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step 1
Decide how much money you would like to put on your TravelMoney card, in any amount from $100 to $9,999. It's best not to add more than you plan to use in a day or two to give you the best security against losing your funds. You can add money to your card by calling 866-674-9622, but you can only reload it three times a week, so plan accordingly.
Step 2
Go to any American Automobile Association (AAA) office or other select retailers such as many grocery store chains to buy your card. To find a complete list of stores that sell TravelMoney cards, see Resources.
Step 3
Give the store clerk or AAA representative at least $100 in cash, write a check or provide a credit card number, including the amount of the transaction fee (if applicable). He will give you your TravelMoney card preloaded with the amount you provide.
Step 4
Call 866-674-9621 as soon as you get your card so you can set your personal identification number. This will allow you to use your card at ATMs, both foreign and domestic, to get cash in local currency.

Tips & Warnings

The TravelMoney card has extra travel protections not usually available on traditional Visa debit cards. Users get access to travel assistance services and lost luggage reimbursements, among other benefits. If you are a member of AAA, you can add money to your card online through aaa.com.

If you lose your TravelMoney card, report the loss as soon as possible to 800-VISA-911 or 0-410-581-9994 if you are outside the United States. Call the international number collect, and Visa will accept the charges. While most golf courses and country clubs accept Visa, some do not. Confirm this information for your destination before you arrive.
