How to Knit Golf Club Covers

How to Knit Golf Club Covers
If you are a knitter and a golf enthusiast or know a passionate golfer, you can knit golf club covers for yourself or as a gift. Choose a favorite color or make these knitted covers out of scrap yarn leftover from other knitting projects. Although this project is quick, it requires skills of an intermediate knitter, such as ribbing, increasing and decreasing. However, if you have knitted for a while at the beginning level, you may be ready to move on to this project as you learn new skills.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step 1
Cast on 50 stitches with number 8 knitting needles and a medium worsted weight yarn.
Step 2
Create a ribbing pattern by knitting K. 2, P. 2, repeating this pattern across the first row. The second row is started and repeated in the same manner, as is every row until your piece measures 5 inches.
Step 3
Change to size 9 knitting needles by using one of the larger needles in the next row. Discard the smaller needle and use the second size 9 needle in the second row. Make an increase in every fourth stitch across the next row, while knitting in stockinet stitch (first row is the knit stitch, second row is the purl stitch).
Step 4
Work your golf club cover in stockinet stitch until the piece measures 5 inches, ending with a purl row.
Step 5
Knit two stitches together, across the entire row. This will decrease your stitches. Purl the next row.
Step 6
Knit two stitches together, across the entire row.
Step 7
Cut your yarn about 20 inches from the last stitch made. Use a knitting eye needle to pull the yarn tail through the loops on the knitting needle, while removing the knitting needle. Pull tight.
Step 8
Sew the seam down from the top to the bottom from the inside of the golf club cover. The inside would be the purl stitch side. Turn the knitted cover right side out. Repeat these instructions for as many golf club covers as you desire.

Tips & Warnings

You can make stripes by alternating yarn colors, as an alternate to these golf club cover instructions. You can add pompoms to the tops of the golf club covers.
