How to Build an Indoor Putting Green
By Britt Barclay
Putting is an important skill in every golfer's arsenal. For those living in colder climates, technique can be lost in winter. The solution is moving the game indoors. An indoor putting green allows for practice on a realistic surface in the comfort and convenience of the home. The project can be completed in a weekend, and the supplies can be found at any local hardware store and specialty golf store; the turf can also be ordered online.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Decide on the size of your putting green and purchase the appropriate quantities of supplies listed.
Construct a frame with cross beams to be the base of the putting surface. Make the cross beams close enough together that the particle board will support the golfer's weight.
Lay the particle board on top of the cross beams and screw it down. Be sure the screws are flush with the surface of the particle board.
Decide where the holes will be, making sure they're not over any cross beams. Drill through the particle board with the hole saw and power drill. Sand around the edges of the hole until you are barely able to slid the cup into place; the cup's diameter is 4 1/4 inches, so very little sanding should be needed.
Use carpet glue to adhere the synthetic turf to the particle board. Trim the excess around the edges of the platform and carefully cut out the holes with a box cutter.
Add a boundary around the edges with either wood or PVC piping.
Tips & Warnings
Add break by putting any type of spacer under one side.
