How to Get Cheap Flight & Hotel Packages to Las Vegas
By Timothy Bodamer
Looking for a weekend golf getaway, gambling excursion or family vacation in Las Vegas, but on a limited budget? Internet travel sites and competition for tourism dollars may get you a great deal.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Start with online travel agencies. Travelocity, Orbitz and Expedia are three popular travel websites that offer trip packages for less than the price of booking flight, hotel and rental car separately. For example, at www.travelocity.com, click "Vacation Packages" on the navigation bar. Under the listing of "Most Popular Destinations," click "Las Vegas." You'll find a variety of different hotel-flight combinations and hotel deals. At www.expedia.com, click "Vacation Packages" on the navigation bar and look for the "Deals by destination" feature. Click on "Las Vegas deals."
Contact a travel agency to ask about cheap flight and hotel packages in Las Vegas. If you're a member of AAA, you can obtain discounts on travel by going through its travel service.
Consider purchasing flight and hotel separately. Visit the Las Vegas Tourism Board website at www.visitvegas.com. This site keeps a list of discount hotel packages, both on the Las Vegas Strip and off. With low-fare airlines such as AirTran, Allegiant, JetBlue and Southwest servicing Las Vegas' McCarran Airport, you might be able to put together a vacation for less than the packages available on travel websites.
Play at a casino beforehand. Harrah's Casinos, for example, has locations in Las Vegas -- but also in Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri New Jersey and North Carolina. By signing up for a Total Rewards players card, you can earn reward points at the Harrah's Casino closest to you. By playing and earning points, you may earn occasional offers on flight and hotel packages from Harrah's. Your accumulated rewards points can also be used at Vegas hotels for comp rooms. Visit www.harrahs.com/total_rewards for more information. Check other casinos close to you to see whether they also have locations in Vegas.
Look in the newspaper or check classified ad websites such as Craigslist (www.craigslist.com). Sometimes people have to back out of a vacation at the last minute and may be willing to sell their travel package at a discount. Keep in mind, however, that some travel vouchers, flight tickets and hotel stays are not transferable. Obtain travel information and details from the seller, then check with the airline and hotel to verify that the package is legitimate.
Tips & Warnings
Use frequent-flier miles. If you fly often, you may be eligible to get a discount or free flight from your airline.
