How to Hit the Golf Ball Correctly
Mastering the golf swing is one of the most difficult parts of any the game. There are so many moving parts involved that if any of them is out of sync, your shot will suffer. Slicing or shanking the ball, not releasing properly, lifting your head, or not having enough power behind your shot are all things you need to avoid.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step 1
Grip the club properly. Your top hand's (left for right-handers, right for left-handers) index finger should interlock with your bottom hand's pinkie. This grip keeps your hand from sliding when you swing.
Step 2
Get in the correct stance. Stand 2 feet from the ball with your legs shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent. (The 2-foot mark is only a guide for most players. You simply want to be able to reach the ball with your club head without stretching, but you also don't want to be standing directly over the ball.)
Step 3
Smoothly lead the club head back from the ball as you slightly shift your weight onto your back foot. Keep your wrists locked throughout your backswing.
Step 4
Make sure your club's face will strike the ball squarely and swing back through along the same plane. As you swing, shift your weight to your front foot.
Step 5
Keep your head down until you strike the ball. Lifting your head too early will bring your shoulders up as well and you will hit only the top of the ball. Once you strike the ball, follow through so that your swing ends with your bottom hand crossed over your top hand. This makes sure you strike all of the way through the ball instead of stopping short.
