How to Hit a Golf Ball Higher
By Michael Joseph
Being able to hit a golf ball high allows you to capitalize on some tricky situations. You can escape from behind trees, land the ball softly and take advantage of downwind holes. Executing this shot properly can help turn a potential double-bogey into a par-saving opportunity. Follow these steps to hit your shots higher.
Instructions
Difficulty: Challenging
Start by positioning the ball two to three inches forward of your normal ball position.
Adjust your shoulder plane so your forward shoulder is slightly higher than your back shoulder. This will also move your head and center of gravity slightly behind the ball.
Shift your weight so slightly more weight is on your back foot. Try a ratio of 60/40 toward your back foot.
Make your normal golf swing. Your hands should be behind the ball at impact. Remember to hit down the through the ball. Don't lift or scoop the ball up.
Finish the swing with your hands high and toward the target.
