How to a Change Golf Grip

Golf grips must be changed or replaced at the first sign of wear. Once a grip gets slick, you run the risk of not being able to hold onto the club, and that can be quite dangerous. Changing grips on a golf club is a relatively easy task, it just takes a little time and instruction.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Place the golf club shaft in the vise and make sure it is secure. Remove the old grip by taking the utility knife and cutting off the old grip. Be sure to cut away from your body.
Use the grip-tape scraper to remove any old grip tape left on the shaft. Be careful not to scratch the shaft when doing this. Use solvent remover to get rid of any additional residue or stickiness left on the shaft.
Clean the shaft with soapy water and dry thoroughly.
Once dry, measure the length of the grip and apply double-sided grip tape to the shaft to match the length of the grip.
Peel off the backing on the double-sided tape.
Cover the hole at the top of the new grip with a finger and pour a little grip solvent into the grip. Gently shake the grip, so the solvent gets all over the inside of the grip, then pour the solvent over the double-sided tape on the shaft.
Slide the new grip up and over the end of the shaft, and make sure the grip is centered and correctly positioned to the square club face.
Take the club out of the vise and let it sit for 16 to 18 hours to dry. Once dry, the club is ready to go.
