Cancun Golf Vacations
Sitting out on the Yucatán Peninsula - Mexico's most famous vacation destination - Cancun provides a variety of activities and history that keep you coming back for more. Indulge in the history and legends of the Mayan ruins or dive the abundant waters of Cozumel. Ecological reserves line the Yucatán corridor stretching from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen. Just about every beach town in this area harbors a dive shop. Take a tank out to Xel-Há, Xcaret or Puerto Aventuras and swim among the sea lions where the Caribbean Sea is filled with colorful fish and the second largest barrier reef provides spectacular walls, large moray eels and unbelievable visibility.
A great attraction to Quintana Roo is its fabulous inheritance from the Mayan civilization born
on this land over 3,000 years ago. The most famous is Tulum, reaching out into the
sea near a beach where the waves gently crash the shore. Nearby is Cobá, one
of the best-kept secrets on the Maya Route. This extensive archaeological site has been left
untouched so its temples have been overgrown by the jungle leaving visitors with the feeling
of just discovering a city that has been lost for centuries. Just steps away from the beaches are
the main archeological destination in the region, Chichén Itzá, famous as the most well preserved
Maya city. Here you will find the great monuments of the Castle, a preserved ball-game area, the
Temple de los Guerreros and El Caracol, an astronomical observatory.
Golf Courses
The city has three main resort areas. The Playa Revolcadero lies on the south side of Acapulco Bay. This long flat stretch of open ocean beach backed by an enormous tropical lagoon is home to the Mayan Palace and Tres Vidas Golf Course. Just to the north of Acapulco Bay is the Puerto Marques, a tranquil bay area that has been the laid back section of the city until just recently, now the site of the Acapulco Diamante Resort. The south facing area of Acapulco Bay is breathtaking, framed by mountains and a natural harbor; it rivals Rio de Janeiro and Hong Kong for natural beauty. The Costera is the heart of Acapulco's resort strip and home to nearly all of the high-rise hotels, non-stop nightlife, dining and shopping.
This Pre-Columbian ball-players land becomes a perfect resort for golf enthusiasts. The Hilton
Cancun Beach & Golf Resort captures the spirit of the Mayan culture amid the beauty of the
Nichupte Lagoon. It is a test of concentration against a backdrop of multicolored mangroves, exotic wildlife
and "El Ray" Mayan ruins. The Pok-Ta-Pok Golf Club is the oldest in the area, designed
by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. the course artistically incorporates ancient Mayan ruins and miles of dramatic
shoreline. The Playacar Club de Golf is located just 45 minutes south of Cancun in the peaceful village
of Playa del Carmen. Designed by Robert Von Hagge, it is recognized as one of the top golf courses
in the world. Carved out of dense jungle, it is exciting to look at and challenging to play.
Arrive early and spend some time practicing in the first class short game area. Cozumel Country Club
is an environmental showcase that has been carefully sculpted through the jungle and is a masterpiece of
challenging golf. With four sets of tees, it allows golfers of all skill levels to enjoy a round while
surrounded by the peace and quiet of the natural surroundings. Dazzling Caribbean colors and scenic backdrops
lift golfers spirits and carry the ball down exotic fairways toward emerald greens where scores
become elusive.
