Jekyll Island Golf - Sea Islands, Georgia

Jekyll Island has held onto its sense of history while melding it with a new and exciting resort atmosphere. With the construction of new convention facilities, it has become one of the South's major meeting and conference centers.

There are three championship 18-hole golf courses and a full-size nine-hole layout on this island. The Oceanside Nine, built in 1917 by Scotch golf architect Walter Davis (at the direction of such influential names as J. P. Morgan, Astor, Rockefeller and Goodyear), plays 3,289 yards and pars at 36. The Oleander plays 6,602/6,151 yards and pars at 72. The Pine Lakes course stretches out 6,698/6,265 yards, parring at 72. Finally, the Indian Mound layout measures 6,601/ 6,206 yards, also parring at 72.

Bring extra ball retrievers with you, as these layouts delight in water hazards. (Also useful when confronting alligators, in which case you leave it for him to pick his teeth with while you move rapidly in the opposite direction!)

All of the above-mentioned golf courses are owned and operated by the state and are available for play by guests of the various resorts on Jekyll Island. The golf courses on Sea Island, St. Simons Island and Brunswick are also available for play on a space-available basis.

You will also find tennis, swimming, tours, the Jekyll Island Music Theater, fishing trips, boat tours and an art gallery on the island. *

Par Three Strategy When playing a par three bring the club you think you should hit and then one club on either side of it, then walk off the exact distance from the distance market to the tee so that you can select the right club paying attention to the depth of the green
Always Make Junior Golf Fun Make practice and playing fun for your kids at all times, do not let a four year old take 30 foot putts that he takes five shots to sink, start them out at two or three feet so they can see the ball go into the cup, then move to four feet, and always keep them around the green at an early age, teaching them to enjoy the short game
Mid-Range Putting Drill Make more of your mid-range putts by practicing hitting the putts past the hole with this simple drill, giving you a better chance of making putts because they will all reach the hole
