The history of this coastal area goes back a long way. Claimed by Sir Francis Drake in 1579, by Juan Francisco de
la Bodega in 1775, later by Russia, and eventually by the US in 1846, it is a world apart. The marshy seaside area teems
with birds and wildflowers and is one of the few peaceful, laid-back places left in this extremely busy state.
There are many outstanding places to eat here as well as a number of wineries to visit. Rather than golfing, one could
spend days perusing the historic buildings, restored villages, art galleries and antique stores.
The Bodega Harbour GolfLinks
was created by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. While there are virtually no trees on the
course, this is more than compensated for by 58 pot bunkers on the first nine and 38 on the back side. Using the undulating
terrain, multi-level greens and prevailing winds off the ocean, Mr. Jones introduced some unique challenges. All in all, this course
is one of the most fun layouts we have experienced in California. Parring at 70/71, it reaches out a modest 6,220/5,630/4,833
yards.
Accommodations are available in two motels. Both are close by and offer
golf packages.
