Nice course.

Played Douglaston on a cool winter day - Super Bowl Sunday - with three buddies. Douglaston is a par 67 layout; the course is not a full length course but it is still a challenge at 5500 yards from the back tees. It features two tough Par 5s as well as some challenging 400 yard plus Par 4s. In all, there are two par 5s, 7 Par 3s and 9 par 4s.

The course features rolling hills, so uneven lies and blind second shots are common. In fact, I believe the course has the highest elevation in Queens - you can see the Manhattan skyline from some of the holes. Water comes into play on a few holes - three of the Par 3s are over water.

My favorite hole is the 11th hole. It is a short, dog leg left par 4 but there are two large trees that you need to navigate through if you want to cut the corner. There is also a nasty drop off over the green (much to the chagrin of one of my buddies who put his second shot over and ended up with a snowman). Other neat holes are the 7th, a par 5 that elevates, then drops to the green, the 8th, a hilly dogleg par 4 and the 18th, a long finishing uphill par 5.

The price is reasonable. www.golfnyc.com has specials, so be sure to check them out before you come and play. We paid $34 each for our round which included a cart.

In summary, nice layout and a challenging course. One of the better NYC muni courses.
