The 9-hole "LakeView" course at the Farmstead Golf & Country Club facility in Lafayette, New Jersey features 3,310 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 35. Designed by Byron Phoebus, the LakeView golf course opened in 1965.
I went out to play Farmstead for the first time the last week of July 2010, paid Twilight rate of $30 with cart. The course was fairly empty and I actually managed to play ALL 27 holes before it grew too dark. I started on Lakeview and played that 9 holes in 80 minutes. I made the turn and played Clubview in about 90 minutes. I found the majority of the tee boxes, fairways and greens to be in good shape with a few that had been beat up. Like a lot of public courses in the NY/NJ area these days, the greens have many ball marks that rude and uncaring golfers do NOT repair. A couple of the greens also needed to be overseeded and/or repaired, but other than that, I really enjoyed the course. I then managed to play Valleyview, which is the shortest of the three 9s, but even late on a muggy day, I managed to play quickly and with minimal delay. I was VERY pleased with the courtesy and professionalism of the staff. They were and are NICE people, who added to my enjoyment of the course that they call home. For a first time golfing experience and NOT knowing the course, I have to say that I more than got my money's worth, that the overall condition of the course made the round better than I had any right to expect and I look forward to returning to Farmstead with golfing friends who have played the course and who also like it.To the folks at Farmstead GC, please keep up the GREAT work and don't change your formula(s). You have it down to a science!
