The Pine Knolls Golf Course, located just outside Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is sure to provide you with an enjoyable day of golf without busting your budget.

Open since 1969, Pine Knolls changed ownership in the last few years so now the beauty of the course matches its breathtaking natural surroundings. The surrounding terrain plays smoothly into the design of the course where hidden creeks and lush mature trees will make you pay the price for missing the fairways.

While the course is challenging, it does feature three different sets of tees so golfers of any ability can compete. From the back tees, Pine Knolls is a par-71 stretch over 6,258 yards. The back nine is more interesting and tougher to play than the front nine where many of the holes run parallel on straight tee-to-hole layouts. The two par-5 holes on the front nine are right at 460 yards, so big hitters have a great chance of putting for eagle.

The back nine takes you over more challenging terrain so play it safe to keep your score in check. The par-5 seventeenth hole measures over 500 yards and has a tricky approach to the green that can cause some difficulty.

All the greens and fairways are in excellent condition on this Bermuda grass course, maybe more so this past summer than ever before. You will find a few ball marks here and there, but that's the fault of lazy golfers rather than the greenskeepers.

The staff at Pine Knolls is friendly and helpful, including the golf pro who is on site to offer advice and paid lessons. There is also a nice pool on the property, which is perfect during the hot summer months.

Green fees at Pine Knolls are very reasonable with a round of 18 holes costing under $25 on most days.

Standard snacks, light refreshments and beverages are sold in the clubhouse. A 15-tee driving range is available on site for extra practice before your round or when you don't have time to play 18 holes.

We recommend Pine Knolls for its interesting design, excellent maintenance and great price.

Have been playing this course for 40 years, hadn't played in the past 2 years, but under this new owner ship it is in the best shape I have ever seen it. Highly recommend it

Must have had a terrible winter. Fairways looked like dried straw.
Staff were excellent.

Overall a fair play, maint. could be better some fairways are nice others are very patchy. Greens are hit and miss as well. Worth the play though
