Loved the course! We walked the 18 for 19bucks and had a great day. We had a starter at the first hole and even though the place was packed and it was the hardest 18 i have ever walked it was well worth the trouble. Will definately be back.

My comments might not help much, I have only played one other round of golf and it was at a country club.I think Moorseville City course is great for the beginner player because you do not have to encounter the pressures of country club play. I played here back in December of 2008 on an overcast day with a high of maybe 50. The course was not crowded and in pretty decent winter shape. The guy at the clubhouse was a bit gruff, but hey old farts are either gruff or willing to talk your ears off. Gruff anyday for me. The front nine is very different from the rear nine and they both have challenging aspects to them. That one hole that runs along side the road made me nervous as my nephew is prone to hook badly. He ended up about three feet off the shoulder of the highway and got lots of honks and hoots. The course was well maintained for the winter. There wasn't the liter or trash as mentioned before and the bunkers, although stiff from not being raked during the week, were smooth.I guess this course is a good financial find for the Lake area. It isn't cheap according to prices here in Hickory (Hampton Heights and Henry River)...I can play for the 20+ buck range.I will return to Mooresville sooner or later because it looked like they had a decent short game practice area.

The place is a depressing experience. Donald Ross, who designed the front nine, would roll over in his grave.Start with the staff. Not very friendly. One gentleman that works there is just plain rude.It gets worse. Things like spacing tee times, or pace of play are non existant. Pay your money and head down to the first tee. There is seldom a starter. In all my days playing there I never saw a course ranger. All sorts of no nos abound. 5 somes are not uncommon for instance. Some guy in work boots taking 3 mulligans off the tee while the course is all jammed up - I've seen it.Pace of play can be brutal, and while most locals are there to play 9, and the back 9 can be a ghost town, would they think of starting more people out there on the back? Rarely. On a weekend it can easily take over 3 hours to get through the front nine. You can sail once you get to the back. The folks that makes up a large part if the paying customers think nothing up just throwing beer cans, or empty ball sleeves, along the cart paths. Bunkers are usually left unraked. Divots unrepaired. The water in the ball washers is disgusting --- almost always dark brown.I think the three reasons this gets the business it does is because it is central to Mooresville, has a driving range (you smell the ordor from the sewage treatment plant or pump station at the end of the range) which other comparably priced local courses do not, and a lot of parents introduce the game to their kids at this course. But for the same money I would suggest going elsewhere. There are other daily fee options in Mooresville and nearby in Statesville where you can play better golf for the same money (might even save a buck to two). If you want to pay a little more there are even more options. I suggest you look elsewhere when spending your golf dollars.
