The 9-hole "Harwich Port" course at the Harwich Port Golf Club facility in Harwich Port, Massachusetts features 2,461 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 34. Designed by Don Blakely, the Harwich Port golf course opened in 1920.
Harwich Port is a public golf course with membership options, located in historical Cape Cod. Harwich Port is an affluent beach resort. This is a historic golf course which opened in 1920. It actually backs onto a graveyard! This is a very unique course. The fairways are well maintained. Greens run slower than average, just because there are a number of blind shots from the tee. There aren’t any traps, but the course is lined with trees along the edges and throughout the fairway itself. Even though this isn’t an 18 hole course, it’s still on the longer side for a 9-hole course at 2,461 yards. There are 7 Par 4 holes and 2 Par 3 holes. The biggest challenges you’ll encounter on this course are blind shots and thick treelines along the perimeter of the course. The course starts out with an especially difficult hole. On #1 (358 yards) you’ll face not only a blind shot but also a sharp dogleg to the left. Holes #8 (295 yards) and #9 (310 yards) are both blind shots over trees. Aim straight on both of these holes and you should do fine. As a rule in general, if you have poor sightlines off the tee, just aim straight. The fairways are very flat and open. Besides the trees, this is a pretty forgiving course. Since the focus here is on the uniqueness of the course and setting, amenities are simple. The clubhouse is really just indoor washrooms, and you can rent clubs if you need to. This is a pretty course to walk, especially at sunrise. It’s a great course for a player who wants more challenge than a Par 3, but still just wants to play a quick round in a relaxed setting. A round (without cart) is $26. A bit higher than you might normally pay, but to be expected for the area. The course is definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area. They also offer reasonable membership options (under $500) for unlimited play throughout the summer. This course has been well maintained and offers something out of the ordinary to get you out of a golf rut.
