I came here on a vacation day and played 36 holes. I was really looking forward to it. I had a good experience here and was not terribly disappointed. A little info on me: I am a 19-handicap player and have no issues with hitting from the very front two tees.

This is a very good course with some challenging holes. Keep in mind this is in the very beginning of the foothills of North Georgia. So, expect a very hilly course. They actually have some semi-deep grass canyons to hit over on a few holes.

I was told that the current management took over the course a couple of years ago. While some time ago things were a little rough-looking from what I'm told, I can tell you the greens are very well-maintained and play somewhat slick. Keep in mind this is a city-run course but Sugar Hill GC is one of the best municipal courses I have ever played. The management aspires to make this course as good as any top-notch course in the area. They make use of starters and marshalls. These guys do strictly enforce the rules but are very polite. I had one tell me I was parked too close to the green but he was very nice about it.

The locals and frequent players of the course are very nice. No one was rude here. While play was slow on my second round (they had a tournament going in the afternoon), I had a local guy come up and play the remaining holes with me. He was very helpful in explaining the best places to hit at certain holes.

Sugar Hill GC is definitely a good course to play but no golf facility is perfect unfortunately. My biggest gripe here is that they don't allow personal coolers. They do not allow you to bring in food and drink from the outside. You'll have to be clever: bring your own and put it in your bag. Maybe buy a cooler with water and ice in it -- that'll cost $3 or so. Then add your own stuff in. They do have a very nice clubhouse yet they only sell cold sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers. That's it. At $40 for a weekday, I do expect a little more.

This course is nice and I know what to expect now. I would love to come more and play (I only live 30 minutes away) but I plan on probably coming here more sparingly. I'm a member at a course near my home. Unfortunately Sugar Hill GC just doesn't have quite the draw to pull me from my home course more than a couple times a year. I'll come back next spring and see how things have progressed here. I think if you can, you should definitely come and give it a shot. Most likely, you'll enjoy it.

This course was one I will definately play again! The people were extremely nice, the starter was super nice, and the marsalls were visible, despite the fact that it was a slow day.

The driving range was small, and there wasn't a practice bunker, but these can be overlooked.

If you have the chance, play this course!
