I played here in Late September of 09' with a friend of mine from back home (up-state N.Y.). I'll start out by saying that the course is beautiful and the staff friendly. The clubhouse was closed for renovations (disappointing) and we paid at a little window near the cart storage area. They started us off on the back 9 first and we quickly learned that the driver needn't apply on this side of the course. This was due to the severe doglegs, undulations and narrow landing areas, that would gobble up all but the most precise of tee shots. Too often we watched with dismay as yet another ball caromed off the fairway and into some deep chasm, or ran headlong into the jungle. As such, I must recommend that you bring lots of golf balls and get proficient with your fairway woods and/or hybrids. The greens were crazy too. Good luck holding them and better luck putting them. The front 9 had some holes where we could hit driver, but just barely. When all was said and done, we both carded triple digits for the round. Upon reflecting on this scoring travesty, we realized that our naivete, bad decision making and relative inexperience left us uniquely unqualifed to play this course. Kind of explains why Obama played here, huh?....

Without question, this is no course for beginners. Nobody can deny the pure beauty of the course to include the layout, surrounding jungle, mountain range in the backround, even distant ocean views. However, don't go stricktly for the scenery if you're not willing to lose a few balls in the process. Just about every hole on the back 9 has a hazard with a strong opportunity to lose a ball on the smallest mistake made. The front 9 isn't as bad, but it is still possible to lose a ball with a bad shot. Best recommendation would be to lay-up whenever possible to prevent wayward shots. You'll be better off doing so anyway due to the large amount of holes that are doglegged.

A Beautiful Course

This is a beautiful, but unforgiving course. I lost many balls in the jungle, but the course is so delightful to play I didn't mind. The course is well maintained, but forget about playing from the rough - there isn't any, just jungle. This is a must if your in the neighborhood (Honolulu). The ride to the featured Pond Hole is a 1 1/2 minut cart ride through a jungle path. Loved it!

What a course! This was a great layout and the back nine is spectacular. It is like playing golf in Jurassic Park. I am a 3.5 handicap index, lost three balls and shot 80 and felt lucky to shoot that from the blue tees. Will play this again someday! Played with a 13 handicap that shot 93! This course makes you think and pay attention to each shot.

Very Challenging

Pete Dye is a sadist when it comes to his course designs.

We played the back nine first. It is spectacular. Almost made the front nine seem boring. Almost, but not quite.

This is definitely one of the courses on Oahu worth playing.

WOW, need i say more. Now I see why the The President (Obama) plays here. Very difficult course. You only need your driver on a few holes, the course forces you to lay up on most holes.
