Wow!!! We come to OBX annually, but I played here 8-5-08 for the first time, and was really impressed with the course (I usually play The Pointe, Duck Woods, and the Carolina Club). Layout is very tough, especially for a first-timer: off the fairway is death. Second time around will save 5-7 strokes, just knowing where to not hit the ball (I hit two drives that seemed perfect from the tee...until I got to where the ball should've been!). Conditions were superb: tee boxes lush, fairways firm with no bare spots, greens largish, modestly contoured, and moderately paced. Greens were on the soft side, so held balls well, but also held footprints. On the down side: I played after noon, with the "twilight" rate of $95, and the pace was excruciatingly slow, which seriously diminished the fun factor. The staff is uniformly excellent, and the scenery is really nice, with sound views on about half of the holes. A word to the wise: bring plenty of balls, as there isn't much room for error on most holes. Another word to the wise: it's a short course - leave the driver in the bag, or better yet, in the trunk, and hit the ball where you can see it. I think this is THE best course on the OBX and highly recommend it.
